Every year MBH PLC generously donates thousands of clay products to various colleges across the UK to highlight the importance of skilled training for the next generation of construction professionals. This crucial support provides our future bricklayers with further opportunities to learn the traditional art forms and skills of bricklaying, and to endeavour continuing to deliver high quality craftsmanship. With the current modern brick revival and demand for bricks soaring due to increasing house-building demands, the British Manufacturer believes it is vital to support and educate this work force, responsible for the creation of our future built environment. Frank Hanna, Group Commercial Director of MBH PLC states, “We as an Industry have a moral duty and obligation to help with the training of our apprentices, ensuring that we have the skill base and craftsman of the future. Britain’s Brick Specialists offers educational support and opportunities through providing free products, technical information and CPD’s. Supporting colleges such as Brooklands and initiatives such as Skillbuild is at the forefront of our minds as we aim to help where possible.”

Whilst these products are essential to practical workshop sessions, they also play a vital role in regional trade skills competitions. The manufacturer’s commitment over recent years continues to benefit students on a national scale whilst also contributing materials and sponsorship for SkillBuild and several other inter-college bricklaying competitions.
Christian Hatherall-Good, Brickwork Tutor for Brooklands College in Ashford, has organised an inter-college bricklaying competition alongside his traditional course syllabus, to offer an alternative learning experience for college students in his region. Three additional colleges will team up, Farnborough College, Swindon College and Acton College, with two registered level 1 students between the ages of 16-19 from each course, competing for the title. MBH PLC generously agreed to continue its valuable stream of support, giving full sponsorship and supplying all materials required for the five hour competition set for April. Christian says, “the support that we will be receiving from MBH PLC will further enhance the student’s skills and ability, which ultimately contributes to an increase in skilled bricklayers.”

In addition to its dedication for brickwork courses in education, MBH PLC are proud to be supporting Chichester College and Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College for the SkillBuild brickwork regional heats in May and June 2015. SkillBuild is the largest multi-trade competition in the country, covering ten different craft occupations. Running for over 45 years, the competition sees the very best in construction talent compete against each other to be crowned SkillBuild winner. Success at the SkillBuild regional heats will give entrants the opportunity to challenge for a place on the WorldSkills UK team and progress to compete at the 2017 WorldSkills competition in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The British manufacturer wishes to build on continued growth in recent brick demand, both on a domestic and international stage. MBH PLC believes that education, training and competition for future brick layers and craftsmen are an important part of the strategy for progression and development in the brick industry.
