Now in its fourth year, Michelmersh has fulfilled its commitment to the bricklayers of tomorrow by donating over 100,000 bricks in 2023 through its “Pledge 100” initiative!
Michelmersh created its “Pledge 100” initiative in 2020 to support the training of the next generation of bricklayers and those eyeing a career in the construction industry after concerns were raised about a shortage in skilled labour. Michelmersh was happy to offer vital assistance to bricklaying colleges with the goal of revitalising the sector by helping to reduce the deficit caused by the cost of supplies.
After seeing careers stall due to the effects of COVID-19 in the construction industry, Michelmersh was happy to get back on track and provide bricks to institutions all over the UK with the bricks they need to ensure students can learn the appropriate skills necessary to become the craftspeople of tomorrow. This year, Michelmersh was able to donate its bricks to 14 educational and skill-building facilities across the UK.
“The bricks have been a fantastic addition to our construction area. The students have used them for their exam wall’s and for competition practice models. We had a full-time student finish 3rd at the guild of brick who was up against 17 apprentices. The new bricks helped him focus on the attention to detail.”

Michelmersh looks to continue its Pledge 100 Initiative for many years to come. In addition to donating bricks, Michelmersh also donates “The Guide to Successful Brickwork,” Banners, and CPD sessions to colleges. Although our list for 2024’s donations is nearly full, if you represent an institution that educates future brickworkers and would like to put your name forward for future years, please contact: marketing@mbhplc.co.uk
