Nestled at the crossroads of Marylebone, Mayfair, and Soho, The BoTree, envisioned by EPR Architects, embodies the cosy charm of Marylebone, the sophistication of Mayfair, and the energetic spirit of Soho. Situated at the junction of Welbeck Street, Henrietta Place, and Marylebone Lane, every aspect of The BoTree’s exterior has been meticulously crafted to blend seamlessly with its diverse surroundings, each street’s character influencing its design.
Boasting 199 guestrooms, including 30 modern suites, The BoTree breathes new life into what was once the Welbeck Street car park. The challenge of repurposing the previous structure’s staggered floor plates and load-bearing façade led EPR to propose a flexible, sustainable new building committed to conscious luxury. Achieving a BREEAM rating of excellent is just one testament to The BoTree’s dedication to mindful choices that prioritises people, place, and planet.
On Marylebone Lane, the architecture pays homage to the street’s intimate scale, marrying traditional materials like Michelmersh’s iconic Black Smooth brick with refined bronze accents. Carefully selected and arranged, 30,000 Blockleys Black Smooth bricks, alongside 15,000 brick specials, create a visually captivating façade. The smooth bricks delicately complement the streetscape, while staggered saw-tooth brick detailing adds dynamism and plays with shadows, concealing panel joints with dark mortar for a seamless finish.
Innovative construction methods minimise environmental impact and ensure precision during assembly. Conversely, Welbeck Street’s grandeur inspires a larger-scale architectural language, with concrete and reconstituted stone dominating the façade. Projecting glass bay windows rhythmically punctuate the design, offering guests breathtaking views of the cityscape.
A defining feature of The BoTree is its majestic bronze lattice enveloping the entrance, adorned with lush foliage, symbolising the hotel’s fusion of Marylebone’s charm, Mayfair’s elegance, and Soho’s vibrancy. The lattice, ascending the hotel’s height, unveils a welcoming entrance on the ground level, while gracefully veiling the luxurious balconies of corner suites above.
The elegant mix of bright metal, dark brick and green plants work together in visual harmony, creating a singular building that fully delivers on any audience’s taste. The BoTree Hotel is a masterclass in the use of Blockleys Black Smooth clay bricks.
