A huge congratulations to Paul Csurko on his retirement after an incredible 30-year career at Michelmersh’s Carlton Factory.
Before his career in the brick-making industry, Paul followed in his father’s footsteps ‘down pit’ and worked for the National Coal Board training to be a Fitter from the age of 16 serving a 5-year apprenticeship. Paul worked in many local collieries, including Darfield, Dodworth, Redbrook, Markham and Selby. During the miner’s strike of 1984, Paul joined the Territorial Army to earn money to help with finances to combat a tough time.
During this time Paul met his future wife, Janet. They married in 1990 and have two children, Adam, the eldest and Becky, who works in our northern sales office.
Paul started work at our Carlton site on 31st January 1994 and from day one, worked on the Setting Machine. He quickly learnt the machine from top to bottom and inside out and every nut, bolt and contactor were known to Paul. This knowledge made Paul invaluable to all departments, including Fitters, Electricians and management when advice was needed for repairs or running problems and training. A dedicated employee, Paul didn’t mind if he was called at home on his days off and would try his best to help solve any faults, even coming in off shift to do so.
At home, Paul is very much a family man. Spending his time with his wife walking their dogs Hamish and Dotty whilst also looking after Becky’s dogs.
Congratulations Paul, we hope you have a relaxing and well-deserved retirement.
