Michelmersh is proud to have eleven projects shortlisted at this year’s Brick Development Association (BDA) Brick Awards – a continued testament to the strength, versatility, and trusted quality of its clay brick products across the built environment.
Now in its 49th year, the BDA Brick Awards remain one of the most respected accolades in the construction industry, championing architectural excellence, innovation, and outstanding craftsmanship. With fourteen categories covering everything from sustainability and innovation to urban regeneration and public buildings, this year’s shortlist reflects the breadth of ambition and creativity across the sector.
Michelmersh products feature across a wide spectrum of shortlisted entries, from homes and student villages to stadiums, offices, and large-scale housing schemes. Their presence highlights the Group’s ability to support both contemporary design and sensitive restoration with materials that balance durability, beauty and environmental responsibility.

2025 Michelmersh Shortlisted Projects:
The Denton – Large Housing Development & Craftsmanship
Six contemporary pavilions designed by ColladoCollins for Elysian Residences, The Denton offers high-quality retirement living in a tranquil woodland setting. Michelmersh’s Synthesis S14 black brick adds depth and contrast to the crisp geometry, with subtle detailing enhancing the sense of calm and permanence.
Bulrush Court – Large Housing Development
A mix of 1,2, and 3 bedroom units make up this mid-range mansion block in London. Architects, Pitman Tozer have used Florens’ vibrant Avorio bricks throughout the project in conjunction with other bricks.
Sheepcote Road – Large Housing Development
Threefold Architects’ affordable housing scheme in Harrow uses a bespoke blend of grey and red bricks to complement the surrounding interwar architecture. Michelmersh’s brick selection provides both variety and civic character across the development’s three varied building typologies.
Clive Booth Student Village – Large Housing Development
Designed by MICA Architects for Oxford Brookes University, Clive Booth introduces 1,350 student rooms in a wooded landscape. A mixed palette of Freshfield Lane bricks – including Lindfield Yellow, Selected Dark, and Selected Light – creates richness and natural variation across the sloping site.
Everton Football Club Stadium – Urban Regeneration
A landmark stadium rooted in the industrial heritage of Liverpool’s Bramley-Moore Dock, this design by MEIS Architects and BDP Pattern features Michelmersh handmade Charnwood Legacy bricks to echo the surrounding dockland warehouses and unify new and old with material authenticity.
Marylebone Place – Commercial
Fletcher Priest Architects’ reinvention of a 1930s office building into high-spec workspaces introduces a refined new façade featuring Michelmersh’s Charnwood Cathedral Grey bricks. The result is a sensitive, quietly bold contribution to the Marylebone streetscape.
Tileyard North – Public & Refurbishment
The final phase of the Wakefield waterfront regeneration sees Rutland Mills reimagined as a creative industries hub. Michelmersh’s Blockleys Windermere Grey and Park Royal bricks tie together heritage restoration with confident contemporary additions, supporting a sensitive adaptive reuse strategy.
A Week at the Knees – Innovation
A striking installation made from 7,000 bricks and 320 metres of recycled steel, this sculptural structure uses Michelmersh’s First Quality Multi and Floren Albion bricks, precision cut by FabSpeed. The project demonstrates the inventive use of standard materials to achieve dynamic, expressive forms.
Lee Marley Brickwork – Specialist Brickwork Contractor
Lee Marley’s submission includes the Huntley Wharf scheme in Reading, where Freshfield Lane Selected Darks contribute to the character of a major riverside regeneration by PRP Architects. Exemplary brickwork underpins the scheme’s cohesive, robust identity.
Swift Brickwork Contractor – Specialist Brickwork Contractor
Swift Brickworks submission includes The Bishops Stortford High School, where they have used a gorgeous blend of Freshfield Lanes Lindfield Yellow and Selected Dark Facing bricks.
11 Belgrave Road – Sustainability
Eric Parry Architects’ low-carbon office redevelopment in Westminster uses Michelmersh’s Freshfield Lane Selected Darks to ground the building in its historic context. The brick contrasts with the high-performance precast elements, providing both texture and longevity.
Copper Bottom – Sustainability
This architect-designed zero-carbon home near Oxford combines a lightweight timber frame with carefully detailed brickwork. Michelmersh’s Danehill Yellow and Selected Dark bricks are used both inside and out, supporting a holistic low-energy design that prioritises connection to the landscape.
