Michelmersh is proud to unveil a transformative step forward in how its products are presented and understood. Through the use of cutting-edge scanning technology, we have completely reimagined our product imagery, capturing our bricks in 8K ultra-wide panoramic resolution with unprecedented clarity and realism.
This initiative wasn’t just about upgrading images. It was about finding a way to represent the true character, texture, and detail of our clay bricks with such precision that every individual grain of sand can be examined. By partnering with TLC and employing the METIS scanner, we’ve developed an entirely new visual standard; one that sets a benchmark for material analysis, digital accuracy, and design confidence.
“At Michelmersh, we’re always exploring how technology can deepen understanding and elevate quality. This project reflects our commitment to innovation, not just in how we make bricks, but in how we communicate their value, down to the grains of sand on the surface of our products. By using state-of-the-art scanning, we’re giving our customers a richer, more reliable way to specify materials with confidence and preparing the business for wider uses of our high-resolution product imagery.”
Sarah Le Gresley, Innovation and Sustainability Director (also responsible for Marketing and Technical departments)
The scanner’s Photometric Stereo 3D technology extracts 3D surface data from 2D images in seconds, enabling us to not only capture colour and form but also the fine textural nuance of each brick face. Originally developed for use on delicate artworks, textiles, and sculpture, this technology allows for deeper material analysis and enhanced digital preservation – qualities that now serve the construction industry in entirely new ways.
“Working with the amazing team at Michelmersh on this project has been a great example of how advanced imaging can unlock new possibilities for material analysis and digital representation. The METIS scanner allowed us to capture the true character and detail of the bricks, providing a digital record that’s as close to the real thing as possible. This level of accuracy opens up new opportunities for future innovation.”
Ralph Willis, TLC
For architects, specifiers, contractors, and distributors, this means more than just beautiful images. It means:
+ The ability to zoom in and examine bricks in extraordinary detail.
+ The use of the images for high resolution renders or BIM models.
+ Professionally colour-matched visuals that reflect what will be delivered to site.
+ A more confident selection process, whether in digital design tools or in printed materials.
These new high-resolution images have launched on our website and will roll out across our brochures , swatchbooks and BIM files over the coming months. They are also available for distributors and customers to request for use in their own specification resources.
At Michelmersh, we continue to invest in ways that make our craftsmanship more accessible, more transparent, and more inspiring – and with this new visual standard, we’re proud to offer a truer representation of our bricks than ever before.
