Dave first joined on 13th October 1975 as a Costing Clerk and Progress Chaser. In those early days, his role focused on calculating the cost of producing special-shaped bricks and tracking the progress of bespoke orders. Just two years later, in 1977, his career advanced when he became a Sales and Despatch Clerk within the Sales Office, managing transport arrangements, customer enquiries and pricing. His skill and reliability quickly earned him a promotion to Assistant Sales Office Manager.
The mid-1980s marked a significant chapter in both the company’s and Dave’s story. In 1985, a new manufacturing plant was opened to produce stock bricks at a capacity of 16 million units per year, raising the site’s overall output to 46 million bricks annually. Alongside new offices, this expansion prompted a restructuring of the Sales and Despatch departments. Dave was promoted once again, this time to Despatch Manager, a role he fulfilled with great dedication.
Over the following years, Dave progressed to Sales Office Manager and later to Sales & Commercial Manager. After 38 years of service, in November 2013, Dave opted for voluntary redundancy when the Group centralised its Sales Administration operations. Yet his connection with Michelmersh did not end there. Recognising his experience and value, the company offered him part-time opportunities to assist with projects and provide cover during holiday periods.
Michelmersh has always been about more than bricks; it is about the people and the community that grow with us. For Dave, this included meeting his wife Angela, who worked in the Accounts Department at Blockleys between 1978 and 1994 before leaving to raise their daughter Lucy.
