Michelmersh has announced the launch of a new podcast series, Forming the Future, created to spotlight the people, ideas and innovations that are shaping the future of the built environment. Designed for architects, developers, specifiers, and construction professionals, the podcast explores how the choices made today in design, materials, and construction are influencing the sustainability, performance, and social value of the buildings of tomorrow.
Hosted by Michelmersh’s Innovation and Sustainability Director, Sarah Le Gresley, and Marketing Manager, Emily Herbert, ‘Forming the Future’ brings together a diverse range of industry voices, including architectural practices, specialist contractors, policy experts, and product innovators. Each episode takes a conversational but informed approach, delving into the realities of delivering better buildings in an increasingly complex regulatory, environmental and commercial landscape.
The first three episodes of Forming the Future will be released on 25 February, offering immediate access to perspectives from across the sector, with additional episodes following later in the year to continue the conversation.
At the heart of the podcast is a simple but powerful question: how do we form a better future? One brick, one building, one idea at a time. Through 20 to 30-minute episodes designed to fit easily into a commute or lunch break, the series aims to make big ideas both accessible and practical, helping listeners apply what they hear directly to their own projects and professional roles.
Speaking about the launch, Sarah Le Gresley said:
“The construction industry is changing at an extraordinary pace. We are seeing rapid developments in sustainability, materials, regulation and design thinking, but people rarely have the time to step back and explore what this really means in practice. Forming the Future is about creating space for thoughtful, honest conversations that connect ambition with action and show how progress is being made across the built environment.”
Emily Herbert added:
“We wanted to create a podcast that felt grounded in real experience rather than theory. Our guests are people who are actively shaping projects, products and policy, and who are prepared to share what is working, what is not, and what still needs to change. Whether you are just starting out in the industry or have decades of experience, there is something in these conversations that can inform and inspire your work.”
Each episode of Forming the Future focuses on both the strategic and the practical. From exploring the potential of urban mining and circular construction to examining how design can support mental health and wellbeing, the podcast addresses some of the most pressing issues facing the sector today. Guests are encouraged to share not only their vision for the future, but also the steps they are taking now to make that future a reality.
By bringing together perspectives from across architecture, development, manufacturing and policy, Michelmersh aims to create a platform that reflects the complexity of the built environment and the collaboration required to improve it. The podcast also reinforces Michelmersh’s long-standing commitment to innovation, sustainability and responsible manufacturing within the construction industry.
Forming the Future is intended to be both informative and engaging, providing listeners with actionable insights they can apply to design, specification and project delivery. The conversational format allows for deeper discussion than traditional industry media, giving guests the opportunity to explain not just what they are doing, but why it matters.
The first three episodes will set the tone for the series, introducing a diverse range of topics and contributors, with more episodes coming in the future. Forming the Future is available to listen to via the Michelmersh website.
With Forming the Future, Michelmersh is inviting the industry to be part of an ongoing conversation about how better buildings can be created for people, planet and the long-term success of the sector.
