Project overview
The Heights occupies a constrained site in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, where Gibson Thornley Architects specified Freshfield Lane First Quality Multi to ground a new building within one of London’s most established brick streetscapes.
The warm range of red tones from Freshfield Lane’s First Quality Multi bricks connects the building directly to a vernacular that runs from Victorian terraces to industrial warehouses. Highly articulated brickwork, enriched with precast detailing, gives the elevations depth and rhythm. The same brickwork continues into the communal spaces, a landscaped rooftop terrace and a sheltered courtyard garden at ground level, creating material continuity from pavement to parapet.
The Heights provides 48 discounted homes for first-time buyers: 45 one-bedroom and 3 two-bedroom apartments, including wheelchair-adaptable units. Efficient Pocket Living floor plans make the most of every square metre, with many homes dual aspect and upper floors opening to views across the city.
Five minutes from Charlton Station, the building addresses a genuine need for affordable ownership in Zone 3.
