Project overview
Wolverton Hall Folly is inspired by Tudor banquet houses and Georgian follies, its octagonal design sits in a large garden and is the perfect retreat for relaxation. The design was the vision of owner Nicholas Coleridge and his wife who took inspiration from the banqueting house at Long Melford, Suffolk.
Quinlan Terry Architects were selected to make the project a reality. Standing at 46ft tall with a parapet, views reach far beyond the confines of the garden and allow for sunlight to flood the interior. Brick was selected for its authentic appearance concerning original 18th-century houses and to serve as a way of disguising the buildings true age. Henley Red Brick was handmade at Michelmersh’s Charnwood factory with the bricks being meticulously crafted to fit specific dimensions required by the architects’ vision.
24 brick moulds were created to allow for the creation of a series of specially shaped bricks, with a total of just over 36,000 bricks used in the project, Michelmersh was able to create them all to the brands incredibly high standard.
Wolverton Folly has won “New Building in A Georgian Context” in the 2021 Georgian Building in A Georgian Context and is currently nominated for recognition in the 2021 Brick Awards.
