Project overview
Woolwich station, located within the Royal Arsenal masterplan, is a key part of the revitalization efforts in the area. It supports the development of new homes and the creation of cultural, heritage, commercial, and leisure spaces. As one of London’s Elizabeth Line stations, Woolwich spans 256 meters and consists of two above-ground structures connected by an underground platform.
The design of Woolwich station required innovative solutions to fulfil the client’s ambitious vision. It involved multiple stakeholders, including Crossrail, Berkeley Homes, the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Transport for London, Rail for London, CABE, Historic England, local communities, and schools.
Floren’s Castor Bricks were chosen for the station’s interior and exterior to honour the local vernacular and the use of deep bronzes. These bricks, with brown tones and white highlights, create a warm and distinguished atmosphere that complements the project’s overall colour scheme of regal purples and whites.
