Making brickwork lightweight

In conjunction with industry leaders Cladmate, FabSpeed has co-produced the CMS40 Facade System. CMS40 uses mechanically fixed non-combustible brick slips, in a lightweight, easy-to-install, cost-effective product. Suitable for volume high or low-rise applications, newbuilds or retrofit projects, internal and external use, CMS40 fuses traditional brickwork façade aesthetics with the latest advanced rainscreen cladding systems.

The system has been fire tested to BS 8414-2:2020 and environmentally tested to CWCT standards.

BBA certification of the CMS40 system, covers both Parex lime based mortar and Instamac cement based mortars.

This lightweight framework system reduces structural load. The clay brick facade and aluminum bracket system offer an A1 non-combustible rating which can also be re-used and recylced.

Breathable Membrane

Application of breathable membrane

Breathable membranes should be applied to the substrate surface, as per the cladmate manufacturer recommendations.
Bracket Support

Bracket support

Place each of the aluminium Fortis support brackets with their thermal isolator in their specified location. Securely fix the aluminium support brackets to the substrate, using the specified primary fixing.
Vertical Rails

Installation of vertical rails

Vertical rails to be secured between support brackets using self drill screw. Centres dependant on design. Install specified insulation between the rails.
Horizontal Rails

Installation of horizontal rails

Horizontal rails are to be installed at intervals depending on the design. These should be secured using provided fixings back to the vertical rails.
Brick Slip installation

Brick slips installation

Install each brick using the provided brick spacers to create a vertical joint and act as the backing for the mortar. Slot brick slips into place, guided by horizontal rails.
Applying pointing mortar

Applying pointing mortar

Apply specified pointing mortar using pointing gun, between all joints.

Prefabrication benefits

FabSpeed offers a variety of precast or prefabricated brick-faced cladding products and applications. Each gives a building the appearance of being traditionally built – however, the use of factory methods offers advantages in terms of design, quality and speed.

In the right application offsite construction comprises many benefits. These often include; less on-site labour intensity, reduced installation costs of segregated products or services, less time on-site, better safety and working conditions, reduced urban congestion and less on-site waste improving environmental benefits from improved consistency and greater precision than on-site conditions can allow.

The CMS40 system benefits coupled with the sustainability advantages of clay bricks which are highly regarded in the construction industry for their durability, strength, fire resistance, thermal performance, and acoustic insulation make an excellent match. Clay brick slips offer design flexibility, with a range of colours and textures. Clay bricks are valued for their longevity, their local availability and recyclability, contributing to sustainable building practices. The CMS40 support system also utilises 70% recycled aluminium as it’s primary component and as such is fully recycable. This system promotes circular principles, due to the CMS40 system being capable of being dismantled and reused replacing only the mortar element, making this an ideal product for secondry life.
