Our EPDs
Michelmersh is pleased to publish EPDs, for products across four of our brands (Carlton, Blockleys, Freshfield Lane and Michelmersh).
We are committed to providing clear, independently verified environmental information that helps customers, architects, specifiers and contractors make more informed choices. Michelmersh positions itself as a sustainable and environmentally responsible business, focused on quality clay products and long-term value.
Our EPDs give us a clear benchmark for the environmental impact of our products. They also support our commitment to continuous improvement, helping us measure progress, identify opportunities and keep improving across our manufacturing processes, products and supply chain.

What is an EPD?
EPD documents are independently verified to international standards, they provide a comprehensive calculation of a product’s environmental impact. They assess products across their entire lifecycle, from raw material extraction through to manufacture, use and end-of-life. For construction products, EPDs help provide consistent environmental data that can be used in carbon assessments, building design, specification decisions and sustainability reporting. In simple terms, an EPD helps answer an important question: ‘What is the environmental impact of this product, measured in a clear and comparable way?’
Why EPDs matter
EPDs are becoming increasingly important across the built environment. They help project teams make informed decisions based on verified data, rather than assumptions. For Michelmersh, publishing EPDs is part of a wider commitment to responsible manufacturing, transparency and continuous improvement. Our aim is not simply to publish data, but to use it. These EPDs give us a robust benchmark from which we can continue to reduce impact, improve efficiency and support lower-carbon construction.
How our EPDs were created
Continuously improving
Publishing these EPDs is an important step, but it is not the end of the journey. We will continue using EPD data as a benchmark to improve environmental performance across our products and operations. As our work develops, we will also be publishing more helpful guides, resources and information to support customers and specifiers in making confident, responsible material choices.
