After almost two years of planning and a rebuild and fit-out that took over six months, a new concept in socially responsible business has opened its doors in Manchester. The new Message Enterprise Centre (MEC) is a state of the art, ambitious training and business hub, built up from the grounds of a derelict warehouse. It aims to solve a problem at the heart of a troubled city and nation – endemic youth unemployment.
MBH PLC are keen to support projects which in turn support our community and the environment we live in and were delighted to contribute 18,500 bricks from our site at Blockleys in Telford for the development of the MEC.
Inside the MEC you will find six newly created businesses and dozens of jobs for ex-offenders and at-risk young people. These businesses which include a property maintenance company, a café and catering firm, hair and beauty salon and cycle recycling enterprise, have been trading since December 2012 but the doors were officially opened in January by Chief Constable of Manchester Police, Sir Peter Fahy.
At the heart of each business are its apprentices, young ex-offenders, no longer a drain on society by an asset. Hands on mentoring, training and a supportive community willing them to succeed they are provided with employment whilst serving their community.
The MEC is an initiative of the Manchester Christian Youth Charity – The Message Trust.
